| NAKHON RATCHASIMA |
| |
Nakhon Ratchasima is commonly called "Korat", situated on a plateau as a gateway to Northeastern Thailand. The plateau is 200-300 m. high from sea level. Mun, Lam Plai Mat, and Lam Ta khong Rivers are flowing in the city. Mun River is originated from Dong Phaya Yen Mountain and flows to Mekhong River at Ubon Ratchathani. |

|
In the past, Korat was very important and has strong power on other cities in this region. The city status was the "Chao Phraya Maha Nakhon", equal to Nakhon Si Thammarat, that has the power to rule other cities in the northeatern area. |
It was a location of many prehistorical villages and the historical cultures of Dvaravati and Khmer. There are traces of prehistoric communities, Dvaravati and Khom cultural evidences, which are found here such as Prasat Hin (the stone castle), etc. The glory of "Thao Suranari" (Mrs. Mo) was also taken place here.
