Sukhothai is the first capital city of the kingdom. It was established since 1157, was very prosperous. The city had many dependencies, covering the large area to the north, the northeast and the south. This is the original place of Loi Krathong Ceremony and many Buddhist rites. |

Sukhothai is meaning to "the dawn of happiness". The kingdom was ruled by many kings. The greatest is the king Ramkhamhaeng, the inventor of Thai alphabets who laid the foundation of Thai politics, administrations and religion. |
There are many historical attractions in the province. The Sukhothai Historical Park which is the UNESCO World Heritage is notable for massive sentinel stone Buddha images that preside over ruins within the old city walls. Si Satchanalai was the ancient seat of Sukhothai's viceroys, and is noted for several magnificent ruins.
