Dating back to the Ayutthaya period, it was originally named "Na Rang" city and was abandoned during the fall of Ayutthaya Kingdom. King Rama II rebuilted the town at the mouth of Nang Rom Canal and named it "Bang Nang Rom". Later, King Rama IV, combined 3 cities (Nang Rom, Gui, Khlong Wan) together and renamed it as "Prachuap Khiri Khan" in the year 1845. |
This province has nice beaches and nature attractions, which are not far from Bangkok, such as Khao Chong Krachok (Mirror Mountain) which supports a small pagoda and a resident monkey tribe at the beachside, Hua Hin beach, Sam Roi Yod national park, Ao Manao, Tham Phraya Nakhon cave, etc.
