Phatthalung is a beuatiful town of the hollow hill (Khao Ok Talu) which is symbolically located in the heart of the city. It has the lake originated from Songkhla, at the north of Hat Yai. This province is the initiation of two famous entertainments, Manora and Shadows Play. |

Phatthalung was assumed to be established since the Srivijaya period. The first location is at Khao Hua Daeng, opposite to Songkhla provincial city. In 1348, some northerners imgrated down here. In Ayuthaya period, it was under the administration of Nakhon Si Thammarat. Later, the city was moved to Tha Samed. It was moved to many places for several times and was finally established as a province in 1933. |
The area is mountainous, forested with high plateau in the west sloping down towards the east through Songkhla Lake. At the northwestern end of the lake, the Talay Noi Nok Nam bird sanctuary is a great attraction.
