Nan is an eastern land of ancient Lanna Kingdom. It was eastablished in the same period to the sacred Phrathat Chae Haeng Pagoda and was ruled by 59 kings. The former town was called " Nantha Buri" or "Wora Nakhon", established by Phraya Phukha in 18th Buddhist century. |

Once, the King Phraya Kan Muang had recieved the Buddha relics from Sukhothai city. He housed it on the Phu Phiang Chae Haeng mountain and moved the town to its foot. Later in 1911, Nan River had changed its flowing route, then villagers moved to established a new land on the west. |
Nan is the site of famous annual boat races, several historic temples and matters, including Wat Chang Kham, Wat Chae Haeng, Wat Phra That Khao Noi and Wat Phumin with its undulating Naga balustrades and famous murals. Doi Phu Kha is an interesting travel spot of nature-lovers.
