Bang Lamphu is a big area of busy trading. Local people sell clothes, foods, electrical products, etc. And it is also a good place that you can go for nice eating.
Most eating places in Banglampu area cater for budget-conscious diners. Shoestring travellers flock to the area around Khaosarn rd. to find some guesthouses, which have open-airs cafes serving standard Thai food and Chinese food dishes.
Other decent possibilities include Indian, Jewish food and Muslim restaurants. Phra Arthit is the road of nice decorated pubs and restaurants.

Khaosan road, shown in Leonardo's "the Beach" as an exotic street of colorful night, is another good food venue in the area. The cheapest Phad Thai fried noodle is here, cost 10 baht. But if you expect nice quality, taste, and atmosphere. Well-decorated restaurants; for example Buddy, Tom Yum Kung, Bar Lumphu, and so on, are recommended.
Phra Arthit area, a riverside section of Bangkok, is a good place of small pubs and restaurants with cds or live electric and acoustic music. At the corner of the street, Phra Sumen Fortress is a cool historical public park where local people go relax and view the beautiful sunset.
