Ancestors
had made their home on this land of smile since the prehistoric
times. The traces of semi-permanent settlements, aged around
40,000 BC, are found . It can be estimated that the hunter-gatherers
were already established. Ancient hunting tools are made of
woods and stones.
The
earliest evidence of agriculture and metallurgy is still uncovered.
But archeologists found ancient seed husks in some Northern
caves. Agriculture began to develop around 9,000 BC. and rice
was being cultivated around 3,000 BC.
The
1,000 BC. painting is found on Pha Taem cliff. Some
of dinosaur fossils can be found at Phu Rua mountain range,
Northeastern Thailand.
BANCHIANG
3,000 B.C.
Some historians
believed that Ban Chiang is the earliest Bronze Age culture
in the world. There are most concrete evidences of a Bronze
Age civilization.
The evidence of Banchiang shows the history
of artifacts, metal tools, and rice production. Among the archeological
finds of 5,600-1,800 years ago, there are elaborate pots and
bronze works that display a high level of artistic skill.
Banchiang area is one of the four UNESCO
World Heritage Sites in Thailand.
